Fairfield Porter (American, 1907-1975)
Part of the Cleveland Museum of Art Contemporary collection, this poster reproduces the painting of a restful scene on a hot summer day in Nyack, NY by American artist, Fairfield Porter. Porter was inspired to sketch the original composition for this painting as he watched his wife and her friend read and paint underneath a tree. The following winter, Porter made a small painting from the sketch, but the large canvas did not evolve until twelve years later.
