Grant Wood (American, 1892-1942)
Reproduced is Grant Woods noted picture January. Painted at a time when Wood and his work were under attack at the University of Iowa, January explores the themes of shelter and oblivion. Snow-laden shocks of corn recede into the distance in a white otherwise featureless landscape, and tracks of a lone rabbit are marked in the snow going into shelter.
