2.25" x 2.25" Large Soft Enamel Pin Double Posted Rubber Clasps Inspired by "The Two Fridas" by Frida Kahlo © 2021 Banco de México Diego Rivera Frida Kahlo Museums Trust, Mexico, D.F. / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is one of the most well-known modern artists today, famous for her self-portraits that place the artist in fantastical situations yet remain grounded in Mexican culture. Her painting "The Two Fridas" (1939) is a notable favorite, as it is the first large-scale work she completed and is a key example of her surreal method of self-portraiture. In the painting, two different versions of the artist sit side by side in a representation of her dual heritage. The left Frida wears a European-style gown and has a cut-open heart, while the right Frida wears the dress of a traditional Tehuana woman and holds a small portrait.
