This Japanese daito, or long sword, was made during the 16th Century in the Azuchi-Momoyama Period. The sheath for the sword was made of red lacquer which had a spiral of thin gold applied. The diato would have been worn with a short sword or wakizashi between the layers of a belt or obi. Together these two swords would be called a daisho. Finish: solid brass, electro-plated with gold, giclee print.
