Perhaps the earliest signed canvas by Renoir, the painting of Romaine Lacaux was commissioned by the vacationing Lacaux family in 1864 during Renoir's stay at an artist's colony in the village of Barbizon.The cards reproduce the youthful charm of the sitter and the delicate colors reveal Renoir's early training as a porcelain decorator.
