Albert Pinkham Ryder (American, 1847-1917)
This poster is a reproduction of a haunting work by American painter Albert Pinkham Ryder. Ryder painted this picture when an acquaintance committed suicide after losing money on a racehorse. Death appears as a skeleton on horseback riding the track in the opposite direction, while the serpent slithers in the foreground. As was his habit, Ryder worked on the painting for decades and was reluctant to part with it.
