Sunflower, New Mexico, I, 1935
The first American woman to gain unanimous respect from critics and the public for her work as a painter, Georgia O'Keeffe is best known for her images of flowers. O'Keeffe often enlarged flowers and used such images to not only celebrate natural forms but also as a visual vehicle for abstract design and color.
